OS X Yosemite Has A Secret Packet Sniffer

Open Wireless Diagnostics located in /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/
Press ⌘Command+6 or choose Window > Packet Sniffer
Choose a channel and frequency
Click Start

Once you click Stop, a .wcap file will be added to your Desktop. You will need a program like Wireshark to read the file. Wireshark can also capture packets, but it is interesting that Apple has added this function to Wireless Diagnostics.

There’s been a CLI wireless capture utility hiding in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/A/Resources/airport since at least OS X 10.6. Nice (maybe?) that they’ve exposed it in the GUI.
